North London theatre institution the Pleasance Theatre are launching two brand new drama training initiatives for young people in North London, delivered by Magpie Theatre. There’s a taster session coming up this Saturday, and if you like it, there are places on weekly classes for 7 – 11 year olds and 11 – 17’s dedicated to inspiring the next generation of theatre makers.

The training, which includes developing writing & ensemble skills will allow budding actors to showcase themselves in a professional setting. Each term the youngsters will devise their own show alongside a professional playwright then perform this piece in the Main House of Pleasance Theatre.

The sessions will be run by North London born and bred Theatre Practitioner Martin Murphy who has had his plays performed at The Old Vic Theatre as well as many other Central London venues. Martin is currently producing a new play at Soho Theatre (written by David Scinto writer of the Oscar nominated classic Sexy Beast) as well as being a regular performer at a range of theatre and comedy venues across London and international festivals.

Artistic Direction will come from Hannah Cox, whose day job is programming arts festivals at London’s Southbank Centre as well as delivering creative programmes with young people and communities across London and Europe with Arc Theatre For Change, Soho Theatre, Crisis Skylight Cafe, Goldsmiths College and Artsdepot.

  1. Please check the facts Kentishtowner. The Kentish Town Delight Tunnel Bar DOES NOT have a 2am alcohol licence. Its licence is 11.30 am Mon-Thu and midnight Fri and Sat. If they are selling alcohol until 2am then it is breaking the terms of its licence. The Police and Camden Enforcement have been notified.

As you will see, from helpful Rich above, the licensing hours are 11.30pm during the week and midnight Friday and Saturday. You were lied to Kentishtowner. Good idea to check the facts properly on the Camden website before sowing seeds of dissension and jealously around Kentish Town. One of our members went into the Tunnel Bar and asked about their licensing hours and they looked sheepish and admitted their licence is only until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
