Pinboard: A new record shop? A new bar? Plus markets and gay pride 2013

Shebeen vs the Tunnel Bar? Plus learn to act at the Pleasance, head to Granary Square for streetfood - and lots more to consider this weekend

It’s gay pride weekend in the capital, and there’s a shiny smorgasbord of events in both the borough and beyond. Start with a little culture tonight in Bloomsbury where excellent independent bookshop Gay’s The Word presents a talk examining gay history. “An intriguing and valuable insight into the range, diversity and complexity of same-sex experiences within their cultural and historical contexts”, say the organisers. £2, 7pm start, Marchmont St.

Also tonight, over at the Central School of Speech and Drama in Swiss Cottage, there’s a life drawing project which aims to engage the public with ideas of sex and gender diversity through a series of workshops, considering theoretical issues around “non-normative sex and gender identity”.

Yikes. If that’s all a bit high-brow there’s always Saturday’s gay old parade: it’s a leisurely 1pm start at Oxford Circus, then down Regent Street and along Pall Mall, past Trafalgar Square and finally ending in Whitehall.

Afterwards there’ll be entertainment in Trafalgar Square, parties in Soho, including UK Black Pride in Golden Square, or head over to Shoreditch to experience the Summer Rites – Pride in the Park party. Closer to home is of course the Black Cap on Camden High Street, throwing its own inimitable Trannyshack bash. More info here.

  1. Please check the facts Kentishtowner. The Kentish Town Delight Tunnel Bar DOES NOT have a 2am alcohol licence. Its licence is 11.30 am Mon-Thu and midnight Fri and Sat. If they are selling alcohol until 2am then it is breaking the terms of its licence. The Police and Camden Enforcement have been notified.

As you will see, from helpful Rich above, the licensing hours are 11.30pm during the week and midnight Friday and Saturday. You were lied to Kentishtowner. Good idea to check the facts properly on the Camden website before sowing seeds of dissension and jealously around Kentish Town. One of our members went into the Tunnel Bar and asked about their licensing hours and they looked sheepish and admitted their licence is only until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
