3. Shebeen vs Tunnel Club?
It was interesting to discover that despite Shebeen failing to get a 2am weekend license, after all their hard work creating upmarket libations in very s’phisticated candle-lit surroundings, new bar Tunnel has opened directly opposite with – apparently – none other than a 2am license. Or at least that’s what they told us when we popped in the other evening.
Now, don’t get us wrong, we’re all for a bit more nightlife in central K-Town but it seems a little unfair that Shebeen’s classy offering failed where the Tunnel – all mojitos and blue neon lighting – has succeeded. We understand that historically the license was obviously in place, but surely such inconsistently highlights the need for a policy rethink?
The only rational solution is to accept that the odd late night drinking hole is probably not going to unravel a thousand years of K-Town’s pretty colourful history. And we should be thankful that boozed up geezers no longer take to the land behind the Assembly House to, er, fight to the death.
Next: party all night…at gay pride 2013.

Kentish delight wine bar has re-arranged it’s letters… had never seen that place open before.
Please check the facts Kentishtowner. The Kentish Town Delight Tunnel Bar DOES NOT have a 2am alcohol licence. Its licence is 11.30 am Mon-Thu and midnight Fri and Sat. If they are selling alcohol until 2am then it is breaking the terms of its licence. The Police and Camden Enforcement have been notified.

Sorry, meant 11.30pm!

We did indeed check the facts – by going in and asking them.
Public details of the Kentish Town Delight Bar licence can be found here:

As you will see, from helpful Rich above, the licensing hours are 11.30pm during the week and midnight Friday and Saturday. You were lied to Kentishtowner. Good idea to check the facts properly on the Camden website before sowing seeds of dissension and jealously around Kentish Town. One of our members went into the Tunnel Bar and asked about their licensing hours and they looked sheepish and admitted their licence is only until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
