3. A Kentishtowner on the up?
We always like to see a local do well, and reader Alison Worster, who has recently graduated with a diploma in garden design, dropped us a line the other day to say she’s building an exhibit at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.
“I’ve won a competition to design and plant a bed around a tower sculpture at Chelsea, ” she says, “as part of the Fresh Talent section, mentored by multi award winning Sarah Eberle.”
Get her! Alison’s winning design, Beyond Reach, teases the onlooker with familiar garden plants around the base of the tower, which, although they are all pretty to look at, are all toxic or thorned. Luscious fruit hang from the tower, just out of reach for anyone to pick them, and only accessible to the birds.
She says: “The knowledge I’ve gained in just three years on my course is immense. I knew I could design on paper, but seeing plans come to life in an outdoor space is incredible. The opportunity to be at Chelsea so soon after graduating is a dream come true.”
Her display will be on view at Chelsea from the May 21 – 25.
