Hungerdog opening on Camden High St next week

As the fledgling branch of a new 'proper' (and healthy) hotdog concept takes shape near Mornington Crescent, we grabbed the pre-launch low-down from Tim Mills, half of the husband and wife team behind it

“In the UK, hotdogs are a variety of food that traditionally has neither been served at particularly decent quality, nor offered in a dynamic venue whereby the ‘dogs are created in front of the customer, served from a smoking grill.

Our mission from the start when conceiving Hungerdog was to create a concept that offers hotdogs – and other fresh foods – like no other. We aim to offer terrific quality, a dynamic venue, value for money and great service. And soon you’ll be able to see for yourself if we’ve succeeded.

Every part of our menu has been carefully thought about, from the quality of the bread buns to our range of salads and desserts, all made in-house, as well as our coffee and confectionery.

But, of course, it’s the hotdogs that mean everything to us. The range will consist of pork and beef sausages as well as an exciting vegetarian option, and you’ll be able to custom create your own dog.

None of our toppings are bought in either, everything is made by us, without any additives or preservatives, using the most healthy ingredients possible. All will be proudly on display: there’ll be none of the all-too-common sticking it all together behind a wall.

It took us well over seven months to find meat and bread suppliers who were able to produce products to our exact specification as the bread has to be handmade fresh every night, with a touch of sour dough and our sausages received from farms of only the highest accreditation.

We were adamant to not serve brioche – flavoured bread that disintegrates in your hand, nor would we serve smoked sausages that overpower the toppings and often feel like rubber.

Hungerdog’s offering is created by a team with a passion for yummy food. We can’t wait to welcome you to the store when we launch next week.

Hungerdog opens Tues 1st September from 11am at 21a Camden High Street, NW1. FREE ‘dogs for the first 50 people, then prices from £4.50 to £6.50
Find out the latest from their Twitter, and look out for Instagram competitions each month too.
