We luuurrrrve a bargain at Kentishtowner HQ. And the new owners (original duo Joel and Susie sold up at the end of last year) of the Prince Of Wales Road pub have come up with a decent offer to lure in some lapsed custom during these sleepy winter daytimes – at least for one month only.
We popped by yesterday to sample the grub at half price, and gobbled these items: a huge vegan sandwich with caramelized onions, roasted red peppers and slices of aubergine piled between two slabs of hummus-coated rye bread (with chips on the side!); and a buttermilk chicken burger of the teetering stack variety which, although it included creamy avocado and a chilli-infused slaw, was just a tad overcooked.
Arguably best of all was another vegan dish: a shallow bowl of tortellini filled with soft, sweet pumpkin and liberally scattered with hazelnuts, sage and ‘vegan butter’, which the affable barman admitted was bought in from the health food store down the road. Still, a tasty ensemble nonetheless.
The mains average about £8-£15 at regular price so with the 50%-off-food deal you’re paying a bargainous £4-7 a person for a very substantial meal. The aforementioned sandwich with chips, for example, comes in at £4.25.
Our bill? £25 for three people including soft drinks and service. If you drink tap water you could shave that down further.
So if you haven’t been for a while, it might be worth revisiting this Kentish Town boozer. But the offer only stands between 12-5pm, Mondays to Fridays – so it’s really for local workers, freelancers, students, skivers and other stay-at-home types.

Hmm. I went today to check out the offer and they said it was over–only the ‘first half’ of February. (never mind I pointed out that it’s the 13th so not even halfway over).
Thanks for telling us! Very unimpressive. There were clear signs saying all February on our visit.
