Summer Blockbuster Season is here at Curzon Camden

Watch Barbie, Oppenheimer and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One in Hawley Wharf's historic arches

The question on every film-lover’s lips this July is: are you Team Barbie or Team Oppenheimer? How about a third option: both?

From their shared release date of 21 July onwards, Curzon Camden will be showing the year’s two most eagerly anticipated movies in its intimate, beautifully appointed five-screen cinema – each of which accommodates just 30 guests – under the borough’s historic railway arches.

Located within a stone’s throw of Camden High Street, if you’re a Kentish Town local it’s also easily accessed from Castlehaven Road. And lest we forget, it’s the perfect air-conditioned way to retreat from the heat.

The venue’s delectable, pink-hued exterior sets the tone for Greta Gerwig’s dreamy, life-in-plastic comedy, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie, with Ryan Gosling as Ken, as they attempt to escape the gilded cage of Barbie Land and venture into the real world – although toy company Mattel’s CEO (Will Ferrell) does his best to thwart their carefully laid plans.

Oppenheimer, meanwhile, is a propulsive, ticking-clock drama from the visionary mind of Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception) that follows the titular scientist, known as ‘the father of the atom bomb’, played by the filmmaker’s longtime collaborator Cillian Murphy. Toggling between colour and black-and-white, the compelling biopic delves into Oppenheimer’s career, personal life and the widely felt reverberations of his scientific research. How about combining sweet and savoury with a double bill of Barbie and Oppenheimer at Curzon Camden?

After all, there’s plenty to keep you occupied between screenings: the wide range of super-tasty pizzas from the cinema’s all-day menu, for one, with toppings including goat’s cheese & caramelised red onion, pepperoni & honey and mushroom, truffle oil & thyme.

Plus, every day from 5pm to 10pm, there’s an exceptional happy-hour offer of two cocktails for £16, so you can sip your favourite tipple while discussing what you’ve watched in the comfortable surroundings of the New York-style bar, complete with plush interiors and soft lighting. Other available beverages include refreshing smoothies and decadent milkshakes, alongside a varied selection of beers, wines and spirits.

And finally, for those who can’t wait until what is colloquially referred to as ‘Barbenheimer’, there’s always the latest instalment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Dead Reckoning Part One, showing at Curzon Camden from 10 July.

It simply wouldn’t be summer-movie season without Tom Cruise completing absolutely mind-blowing stunts for our entertainment. Hot off the Oscar-winning success of Top Gun: Maverick, Cruise returns as IMF spy Ethan Hunt, trying to track down a piece of self-learning tech that could threaten the world as we know it if it fell into the wrong hands.
