Always one of Kentish Town’s most underrated little spots – and the first to bring banh mi to the neighbourhood – it’s a shame that Carrots & Daikon is closing after an impressive eight years.
“A very sad day it will be,” says co-owner David. “However, I have some exciting news to share. Firstly, we’re happy to announce that replacing us will be two fantastic small businesses, the first being Turo Turo, who cooks phenomenal Filipino street food, similar to ours. And second is Ligaya, who do amazing Filipino bubble teas and Asian bakes, perfect for the hot weather.”
Both Turo Turo and Ligaya “are good friends of ours”, he says. “I’m sure you’ll give them a chance and a warm welcome to the area just like you have always done for us.”
If you’re a C & D regular, there’s more good news in that they’re in the process of creating a self-published e-cookbook of all their recipes. “We hope to get everything done and book released by Sunday 11th June 2023, but in the mean time you can pre-order a copy at carrotsanddaikon.com/shop“, he says. “You can also submit a testimonial on our website if you would like to be included in our testimonial section of our cookbook.”
Carrots & Daikon closes on Friday 23th June, and is at 10 Highgate Road NW5. Follow @carrotsanddaikon as well as new occupants @turoturouk and @ligayabakery on Instagram.
