MUST DO: Kentish Town Christmas Lights switch-on

Get thee to the canopy by the tube this Saturday afternoon for a bit of cheery old festive fun

It’s the same every year. Everyone moans that retailers and advertisers are pushing Xmas ever earlier – and then suddenly it really is here. Yikes.

So don’t resist – we’re sure you’ve guzzled your first mince pie by now anyway – and instead support the big neighbourhood Xmas Lights switch-on this weekend right here on Kentish Town Road.

Yep, on Saturday (30th November), hundreds of friendly locals and businesses will gather round the canopy – y’know, where Bean About Town are – from 430pm, as night falls.

The countdown will begin at 5pm when 25 lamp posts will be lit up right the way up the high street (plus there’s the annual estate-agent sponsored Xmas tree in situ too, already looking pretty).

For the peckish, expect free scran from 430pm, served outside participating shops and at the Canopy itself, to the sound of carol singing performed by a large-lunged choir or two. There’ll even be, say organisers Kentish Town Road Action, a spot of Irish dancing.

And if it’s a washout, weather-wise, well, let’s face it we’re not short of a welcoming hostelry or two in central K-Town, after all are we?

Christmas Lights Switch-on, 430pm, canopy next to Kentish Town station.
