You’d never have thought they’d have been able to squeeze one in, to be honest. After all, Camden Market is notoriously squished, with its maze-like warren of cobbled thoroughfares and dozens of streetfood stalls. Not to mention zillions of phone-wielding tourists.
But the North Yard – now foodie central – has, in its arsenal, a slender open rectangular space bang in the middle of the clutch of posh diners, cafes and stores. It’s here that an ice rink – “North London’s longest”, enthuses the press release rather breathlessly – has been somewhat magically shoehorned in.
It’s surely an unrivalled claim, anyway. This being the Stables, post-skate there are some decent yuletide refreshment options, from the ‘Triple Ho’ vegan Christmas Burger at Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner or fondue ar The Cheese Bar’s, not to mention boozy hot chocolate from The Camden Grocer and sweet stuff at just-open dessert parlour wonderland Hans & Gretel.
Even better – if you’re, ooh, three feet or under – there’s a fully white-bearded Santa in the handy Santa’s Grotto. So, as your mum would say, get your skates on. Ho ho ho, indeedy.
