Backyard Cinema brings Venice Beach to Camden

The LA Nights season takes over the Chalk Farm Road venue's terrace for a "rain-free" summer experience

Immersive movie gurus Backyard Cinema are promising to transform the terrace at the Roundhouse into LA’s legendary Venice Beach later this month.

Yep, we know what you’re thinking: been there, done that. After all, the infamous Camden Beach was one of the first of its kind in the capital, dating back seven years. Was it *really* that long ago?

Apparently so – which means this new take on it will be way more hi-tech: big screen aside, there are towering palm trees, a retro beach bar, classic West Coast tunes and a sea of giant bean bags on the sand.

But the biggest difference is the swanky retractable roof for – what they’re calling – “a rain-free summer movie experience”. Fancy!

X-Factor wannabes might wish to book one of the Sing-A-Long Beach Parties, while films comprise outdoor cinema staples such as Back To The Future, Clueless, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Greatest Showman and Mamma Mia.

And, as well as the roll-call of blockbuster flicks, there’s an adult-only Slush Puppie cocktail bar, lashings of craft beer from Gipsy Hill Brewery and pots of vegan ice cream. You’ll need to work all it off by throwing an elegant shape or two to mash-ups from the house DJ, Jaguar Skills.

Tickets: backyardcinema.co.uk, LA Nights runs 18th July–25th Aug, Roundhouse NW1
