A new north London pub from the Stag peeps
A decade in, you still can’t really beat The Stag on Fleet Road, with its capacious garden and summer carnival vibes right there on the Gospel Oak/ Belsize borders. And so we’re curious about their newish watering hole, which they bill as “one of London’s first beer bars” (er, really?) With 300 beers, 20 taps, and a slew of patty-in-buns, it’s called – rather prosaically – Beer & Burger, and is just across the road from Willesden Green tube. Looks pretty slick though, eh? Follow @Beer_And_Burger for more info. 88 Walm Lane NW2
Fiddler’s Elbow rocks more than ever…
This increasingly ace live music venue and boozer never fails to disappoint. Our current fave is the free blues session on Tuesdays: anyone can play – just turn up and register by 630pm – and it’s a mixed bag of performers, with a harmonica or two and variety of voices and styles. Or try Friday’s Crawdaddy northern soul night (or rawk on Saturdays). In short? Great people-watching, shabby chic sofas, vinyl on the walls, and graffiti everywhere. It’s like the infamous Monkey Chews was at its height – and a great antidote to NW5’s gastropubs. One boozy tip? It would be great to see local breweries Camden Hells (it’s soooo nearby), Hammerton or even Tottenham’s Beavertown on tap. More info here. 1 Malden Road NW5
And discover the White Mustache
Excellent name aside, this tucked-away watering hole on the eastern edge of Regent’s Park is all the better for its unexpected qualities. The modern exterior is proudly Farrow & Ball, while inside is a European-style pub-and-café, with craft beers, seasonal food, artisan breads, cakes and coffee. We’ve devoured decent burgers here (only six quid on #TashTuesdays), plus there are two outdoor spaces and a bit of foliage to distract from the urbanity of it all. Worth a detour.
