MUST DO: Summer at the Roundhouse

Pull up a deck chair on Camden Beach - and then catch Wayne McGregor's major new work inside

1. Camden Beach – and its big screen

We’ve always liked the egalitarian nature of the annual free Camden Beach, but this year there’s a (paid-for) twist: until the end of this month there’s a run of nightly outdoor movies, on a cutting edge LED screen, meaning you can slump in a deckchair for cult classics and new releases. Last week we particularly enjoyed a rerun of the Goonies, for example.

From August 1st it’s business as usual as the beach goes back to being, um, a beach. Hangry? Gobble mac ‘n’ cheese, pulled pork, beer and cocktails from beach-side bars. Big Screen runs until 29th July (book here), then beach is open daily till 28th Aug Roundhouse, Chalk Farm Road NW1

2. +/- Human at Roundhouse

It’s all happening at Chalk Farm Road’s famous venue this summer. Worth catching next month is Wayne McGregor’s major new work: during the day, an installation by Random International sees a flock of flying spheres in a “hypnotic experience created in response to the Roundhouse’s unique architecture”, with music created by Warp Records. On weekend evenings, the installation hosts immersive dance works. +/- Human runs from 10th-28th August, tickets here.
