We’ve long been fans of arty K-Town troupe Gabby Young & Other Animals (read the Ich Bin Q&A with singer Gabby here).
So we reckon you could do worse this long bank holiday weekend than download their new single, I’ve Improved, which was released on Monday.
A suitably jaunty affair – with a catchier-than-crabs chorus – it’s the lead ditty from their upcoming third album, One Foot In Front of the Other, which is packed to the rafters with cabaret and quirky pop.
For the uninitiated, we highly recommend you take a peek at the video above: a witty affair which references the era of silent movies, it’s nice to see such eccentricity flying high out of NW5.
Oxford-raised Young, 30, first came to north London when she was 19 to play a small acoustic gig at now sadly defunct music pub Monkey Chews. “The audience reacted so well to my songs,” she says, “that that was the night I first thought I could actually be a singer-songwriter.”
Three albums later, including world tours, headline dates at KOKO and 2012’s critically acclaimed The Band Call Out For More – whose promo vid for Walk Away was shot on Hampstead Heath – we reckon that wish has pretty much become true.
