Another bleedin’ local festival? Oh go on then…

York Rise in Dartmouth Park hosts one of the season's last knees-ups this Sunday - and it may be the last of the summer sun, so don't waste it

One of NW5’s bigger street parties takes place this Sunday, September 8, and it may give you the chance to actually meet your neighbours, rather than just peer into their window to see what telly prog they’re watching.

Festivities kick off on leafy York Rise at 11am with a music parade for kids, followed by some obligatory face-painting and fancy dress, while grown-ups can tuck into the food and DJs. And there’s always the ace deli Truffles to pick up some decent coffee, and the Dartmouth Arms for a pint or two of the strong stuff.

Make sure you pop into Truffles for some decent cwaffee
Truffles is where to hang in the ‘Park

It’s worth adding that the bash is not just for York Rise residents, indeed it’s a community party that welcomes everyone, even a pooch who might wish to wag his tail in the dog show. Fingers crossed then for Kentishtowner mascot Pepper.

A heads-up to other halves and kids of embarrassing fortysomething groovers? Avoid cringing and make yourself scarce when the dad’s disco dance-off gets going. Yikes.

And, as with any stretch of sunshine in September, there’s always the fear that it might be the last rays you’ll see till 2014. So head down, get a bit burnt, and party like it’s Alma Street all over again.

The festival takes place on Sunday 8th September 11 am to 8.30 pm, York Rise

  1. The Dartmouth is being deliberately run down to pave the way for flats. It’s a terribly run pub now, but used to be one of the best before it was sold to Faucet Inns.
