Two hot new neighbourhood haunts open this month in NW5. On the left is the still-being-built Camden Town Brewery bar basking, sauna-style, in early evening sunshine. The soft launch is tomorrow between 12-5pm: expect extensive outdoor seating, 12 taps, as well as wines and spirits. And rumour has it that soon there’ll be a food market along cobbled Wilkin Street Mews.
And on the right is a very different proposition: the new ‘shebeen’ (as they’re calling it) in the former Victorian police cells underneath the Kentish Canteen. Think cubbyholes, ‘classic cocktails’, flickering candles and Ella Fitzgerald on the soundtrack. It launches next Thurs March 8, and Kentishtowner readers are guarenteed entry by scribbling a witticism below. So go on: make us laugh.
We will, of course, be reporting from both asap. Toot toot.

Looking forward to being proved wrong about the Kentish Canteen empire.
Yessssss shebeen! Doesn’t sound massively like any previous shebeen experiences – probably a good thing.
Is this witty?
Mrs Kentishtowner: ‘No.’
How about this?
You won’t find a shebeen in Monocle…
Mrs Kentishtowner (*gives up*): ‘Is that what you lot call wit?’
D’you think they’ll have lock ins?
I believe that in the olden days if a lady burglar was arrested, shebeen taken and locked up there.
xx
Now Sally Ann: that da bomb.
