It’s not just posh coffee and rejuvenated community pubs that are booming in Kentish Town. There’s a sizable collection of tech-focused companies that have chosen to base their brightly coloured offices here too. So many, in fact, that we’ve teamed up with a few of them to organise a regular networking drinks thingy, the first of which will take place tomorrow (Friday 25th April).
The idea is simple: make useful connections and build a stronger community of like-minded people, and do it monthly in a great K-Town pub.
So for the inaugural meet, we’ll be sinking a few Hells tomorrow at The Grafton with locally-based companies including MVF Global, Mumsnet, Softwire, The Beans Group and many more. If you work in the area and would like to join us, simply register below. It kicks off at 6pm. And even if your trade isn’t tech, with digital playing such a big part in many businesses today, everyone is very welcome.
For James Eder, founder of student marketing dynamos The Beans Group, this is something he’s wanted to do for a while now. “Moving to Kentish Town last November, we discovered a number of great businesses not only in our building but in the whole area,” he says.
“We thought it was about time that we all introduced ourselves and got together. There has been an obvious focus on Tech City and a perception of Old Street and Silicon Roundabout being the centre for what is happening in the tech space. I think it means other areas haven’t had the chance to shine and as Kentish Cluster shows, we’ve got some of the best, award-winning businesses in the UK situated right here.”
Zoe Cunningham, MD of bespoke development co Softwire sums up why a decidedly analogue drink is such a good idea. “People mistakenly think that technology and inter-connectedness means that we can interact just as well with companies anywhere in the world,” she says, “but the truth is that we can form much more meaningful relationships by simply talking to our neighbours.
“By getting to know the businesses near us in Kentish Town, Softwire have already found long term clients and collaborators, and had a lot of fun.”
