1. Collision
This weekend a special event brings 15 independent fashion designers together with ten contemporary artists at one totally free pop-up event in Camden Market.
Collision will give visitors the rare opportunity to learn more about the inspirations and creative processes directly from the people who make the clothes and artworks, as well as buy any items that take their fancy too, of course.
Designers include Camden Market trailblazers An Original Leroy, Clime-it Brothers and Dirty Rich Apparel as well as guest brands Sscutter and The Style Merchants, while the artists are Art Guy Eddy, Amara Por Dios, Perspicere, Florica, Consuelo, Tommy Fiendish and the return of John Bulley, the man behind the now world-renowned ‘Up on the Scaffold’ painting (pictured above) which turned the rusty old Camden rail bridge into an iconic landmark.
Look out too for the curated stand of Sugar For My Soul, for a selection of prints and original work by the likes of Mr Cenz, Lilly Lou and more.
2. Learn a new language
Cock an ear, and you’ll hear so many European languages being spoken around London these days, but have you ever yearned to be able to join in too? Knowing a different language means there are more friends to make, books to read, films to watch and job opportunities to apply for.
North Londoners have now the opportunity to learn German or French in Kentish Town with the experts: The Goethe-Institut and the Institut Français. These organisations are their respective countries’ official cultural institutes, active worldwide.
The curious can find out more by joining the next German & French Open Day at CFBL (more commonly known as ‘the French School’) on Holmes Road, where you can take part in free taster lessons, pick up some information and have your level assessed, should you have any previous knowledge of German or French.
Time to get thoroughly linguistic for 2016.
3. Brand new guide to Tottenham
Yup, we’ve only gone and added another title to the London Belongs to Me network this week. Seventhsister launches today, and will cover all things Tottenham, Green Lanes and surrounds.
It’s a part of the capital with a fiercely proud community, who still often find their area being misrepresented in the press. But now a group of locals, headed up by photographer Andre Ainsworth (who shoots many of our print portraits) have got together to cover all the good things that are happening in the neighbourhood.
From the success of local businesses such as Beavertown Brewery to the regeneration of vital green space Lordship Rec, you’ll find interviews, reviews, exciting local gossip and ultimately an in-depth guide a few more of London’s underrated postcodes. A ‘travel guide for locals’, as we like to say.
