On Friday night Kentish Town’s new hip hop station launched above the sadly closed Map Studio Cafe. “The first show was a little shaky,” admits co-founder Trevor, “but it continued. The second, though, was a hit with a DJ named Tha 4orce. And Saturday and Sunday were much better days, giving us a feel of how the weekend will sound going forward.”
Good for them. And for the uninitiated, this is the first home for what is effectively a brand new internet station, although an earlier model – a pirate – ran for a whopping seven years.
And where do the boys live? “We are not from Kentish Town,” Trevor says, a little sheepishly, “although we do have a few DJs from NW5. We chose it because it’s a nice area and is central for a lot of the guys we have lined up.”
Fair enough. So the only question remaining is – at least for locals who might fancy a little Ty with their latte – why shut the bohemian downstairs caff and multi arts space at such an exciting juncture?
