Want the good news? The former O’Reilly’s, on the corner of Kentish Town and Holmes Road, is now set to reopen at the end of next month.
Brewery founder Jasper Cuppaidge spills the beans on what to expect in our brand new August issue, out today. “There are a lot of students in area, so we want them to feel it’s a cool place to come and hang out for a cheap eat and good beer,” he says.
And lashings of Camden Hells aside, what’s for dinner? “It’ll be a simple offer: clean, healthy fast food inspired by all streetfood we’ve had at the Brewery, including an emphasis on kebabs. It’s kind of an English interpretation of Middle Eastern cuisine, so salads and meze will feature, along with a window serving great coffee all day.”
Jasper took us on a hard-hat tour of the site, with its high ornate ceilings and leaded windows. The team have ensured any interesting details have been kept, including the back bar, mirror, and clock. And guess what? He still can’t make up his mind on what to call the gaff. Former names The Old Farm House and Star & Garter “don’t feel right,” he says.
Let’s hope he decides soon. And once the new part-crowd-funded brewery opens in north London next summer, there are big plans for the original Wilkin Street Mews bar too, with it doubling in size, the installation of a permanent outside kitchen and much improved toilets. Phew.
