Earlier this year kombucha brewery Wild Is Earth opened at Tolli on Kentish Town Road, the brainchild of Livia Palmiero, the long-running store owner’s eldest daughter. The idea, she said, was “to set up permanent residence within the family business as a kombucha micro-brewery in the mezzanine area of the shop space.”
And now she’s hosting an intriguing sounding ‘Fermented & Fungi’ dinner event on 31st October. “It’s an intimate evening of plant-based culinary delights,” she says, “celebrating the art of fermentation and the rich world of fungi, all crafted from organic, seasonal ingredients.”
The menu naturally draws inspiration from kombucha, offering a creative exploration of gut-friendly, fermented dishes and the rich world of fungi. With an emphasis on zero-waste and sustainable practices, each dish will highlight the importance of mindful eating – “for a healthier body and a healthier planet”, she says.
Joining Palmiero are naturopathic chef Julie Cleijne (from Sustainable Kitchen Consultants), and nutritionist chef Nour Maurice (from Nourished by Nour): “this exclusive, seasonal menu is crafted to nourish both body and soul,” she says.
The evening comprises five unique courses, plus drinks and coffee. There are limited spots available so head here to book. @wildisearth, from 7pm, October 31st, 327 Kentish Town Road NW5.

The Gipsy, Clapton Craft & Jackson’s Lane

Elsewhere this week, The Gipsy Queen is under new management and officially launched last night with a refreshed interior, a new outdoor garden and a secret karaoke room, along with new food and drink menu. Check it out up on Malden Road just past the entrance to Queen’s crescent. @gipsyqueennw5
The candlelit Clapton Craft (pictured above) is surely the cosiest craft beer taproom on Kentish Town Road on a rainy autumn evening. But on our visits it’s been surprisingly empty, and yet it’s such a great vantage point to people-watch rather smugly, as is our wont, with a signature Newbarns x Clapton pilsner. @claptoncraft
Finally, up in Highgate, Jacksons Lane has been awarded a £206k grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to support the venue’s 50th birthday celebrations next year. It’ll include the completion of crucial restoration work and the creation of a new Oral History Collection, which will tour Haringey Libraries as part of a pop-up exhibition. @jacksons_lane
Kentishtowner turns 15 soon – which isn’t too shabby for an independent food & culture site run on almost zero resources. And, as usual, a billion thanks to those who donate. But to put it into perspective, that’s just under 5% of readers in the last year. If you’re sitting on the fence a bit, maybe just ping over a couple of quid? After all, that’s cheaper than a coffee almost anywhere these days. Support Kentishtowner here
