North London Food & Culture

Camden Oktoberfest, Electric Ballroom

MUST DO: Oktoberfest Camden

Booze, street food and boogie-ing in NW1 this weekend

D

on’t fancy travelling to Munich for Oktoberfest? NW1 will be hosting a Bavarian bier-fuelled extravaganza across two dates in, you guessed it, October. This month Electric Ballroom is all set to be transformed into a German-style beer hall, complete with long wooden tables, bunting and, of course, servers dressed in dirndl and lederhosen.

Sup on steins of Spaten and Löwenbräu and munch on sausages from wurst kings Herman ze German, all to choons from tweed-clad ten-piece drum and brass ensemble Old Dirty Brasstards. Expect covers, classics and oompah faves. Where might you have heard their eclectic mix of tracks before? Glasto, SGP and Bestival.

Club de Fromage on DJ duty spinning a host of guilty pleasure tunes (you know, the song that’s popped into your head now that will be there for the rest of the day). Be warned, full fancy dress is encouraged: get down to Escapades and load up on traditional garms.

Fancy doing the rounds and checking out more London-based folk fest events? Head to KX bar-cum-restaurant German Gymnasium, they’re teaming up with Rothaus Brewery; or mosey along to Finsbury Park for fairy-lit-mega tents, live music and an obscene number of bratwursts.
