Village Disco

MUST DO: Village Disco, Tufnell Park

Show Aretha some r-e-s-p-e-c-t. On Junction Rd, no less

H

ands up if you like a little boogie but proper clubs just don’t appeal anymore? Fret not, and pencil Village Disco into the diary, an “occasional dance night for grown-ups in Tufnell Park.”

The brainchild of local pals Phil and Rich, previous events have paid tribute to icons Bowie and Prince. But this weekend the mighty Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin will be top of the bill, a celebration of the late star’s incredible life.

And where will this shindig take place? At the aptly named Northern Soul (formerly the Hideaway), a short jaunt along Junction Road. Profits go to Whittington Park Community Centre, a worthy resource in need of funds.

So get down to a host of funk classics from the gospel-rooted singer, including legendary track Think, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman with its euphoric chorus and What Y’All Came to Do, a funky collaboration with John Legend.
