Now is the season to be jolly – if you like a bargain or two (and who doesn’t?). As you’ll know, after the Xmas rush, and with the vogueish rise of #dryanuary, pubs and restaurants across the neighbourhood are shamelessly desperate for your business, and willing to slash prices accordingly.

Current deals that have caught our eye recently include both The Vine and The Oxford (which has just been sold, so expect it to close temporarily soon), offering 50% off food Mon-Wed (bookings only); newish brasserie Neighbour also offers 50% off food on Wednesdays (bookings only); Young’s three NW5 pubs The Lion & Unicorn, Bull & Gate and newly reopened Lord Palmerston are doing two mains (including vegan and vegetarian specials) for either £20 or £24 (prices vary according to the venue) from a ‘winter warmer’ menu; and The Stag on the Belsize Park/ Gospel Oak borders has its ‘Best Friend Tuesday’ (basically 2-for-1 mains) as well as 50% off lunch on weekdays.

Not to be outdone, the nearby Gipsy Queen on Malden Road which, under new owners has admittedly taken a while to find its feet, has handy offers on most weekday nights, including 2-for-1 burgers on Wed (the halloumi stack was pretty tasty on a recent visit), as well as a ‘date night’ on a Monday (two mains and a bottle for £24), and 2-for-1 roasts after 630pm Sunday.

Phew. Stuffed already?
