FOOD: Kami is reborn
It’s always served pretty reliable sushi, maki rolls and their ilk. But one thing most locals agree on is that central Kentish Town’s only Japanese restaurant has never quite been a place to linger. So the refurb, which has just been completed, is pretty welcome. Now it’s all Mayfair-dark walls, hard tiles and counter seating, with low lights and a feel that’s way sexier than its previous vibe. Let’s hope the food is more consistent, too. 8 Fortess Rd, NW5. More here.
ART: Frieze Art Fair
This weekend, 130 internationally renowned art dealers are rolling into Regent’s Park. Armed with thousands of expertly vetted artworks the show will boast work spanning from ancients and tribal art, medieval sculpture, 20th Century masters and avant-garde artists. Talks will be held daily by acclaimed artists Marina Abramović and Lynda Benglis amongst others and curators from the lives of The New and the Uffizi Gallery. Thurs 5th-Sun 8th October. MUSIC: A bumper crop of 90s indie
Of a ‘certain age’ (ie. did you grow up in the 1990s)? Well, this revival at The Forum is for you. Indie Daze 4 sees eight bands back-to-back at K-Town’s iconic venue (for £32.50 for he whole day). A mix of cult and classic indie names, this year features headliners The House Of Love (celebrating their 30th Anniversary), plus the first set in 25 years from Voice of the Beehive, The Wonderstuff’s Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls reeling out a slew of hits, the first full band show from Salad (remember them?!) in 20 years, plus Scottish-popsters Bis, a reformed Crazyhead and also cult early 90s ensemble Thousand Yard Stare. Phew. October 7th, The Forum, Highgate Road, NW5. More here.
POP-UP: Le Bao
Finally, over at Kentish Town’s loveliest neighbourhood craft beer bar, Le Bao are now ensconced in the kitchen for the next three months, serving pork belly, chicken, vegan and vegetarian fluffy pillows (also dairy-and gluten-free). And they come already garlanded, having scooped the 2016 British Street Food Awards Best Sandwich. Any two for £9. Every day except Monday. Rose & Crown, 71-73 Torriano Ave, NW5. More here.
