Three local festivals: one hedonistic weekend

The first weekend of June is a melting pot of big community bashes

It’s a big 48 hours in the neighbourhood – that’s for sure. After taking an unexpected break last year (boo!) Kentish Town’s joyous annual festie is handily back on the same weekend as its newer rival (see below).

Expect the usual heady mix of local talent doing what they do well: singing, cooking, printing, dancing, DJ’ing, dressing up, lindy hoppin’, baking – and basically bringing out the best in each other.

There’ll be poetry, prose and acoustic performances, art classes and workshops in painting, graffiti and other crafty pursuits, as well as endless rows of bric-a-brac and vintage stalls.

Chuck in local craft beer, tons of streetfood, a live stage or two pumping out rock, electronica and reggae, plus The Dig It Sound System – and you’ve got another day-long corker. Sun 4th June. Free, from 12midday to 7pm. Alma Street NW5

Fleet Festival

“A laid-back free arts event.” Photo: PR
We reckon Kentish Town will be filled with more dancers, artists, brewers, musicians, and knitters than ever before over this first weekend in June. It’s already the fifth (count ’em!) Kentish Fleet Festival, a laidback free arts event named after the river that flows underneath the area, thereby celebrating its “undercurrent of creativity”. Geddit? Workshops and events include mural painting, dance classes, a drawing course, music events, screen printing, story writing, beer brewing, BBQ and gin tasting. There’s even a tour of the hidden Fleet. 3rd and 4th June. Free. More info here.

Camden Rocks

250 acts take to 25 stages. Photo: PR
Finally, this popular rock ‘n’ roll bash is back for what they’re saying is the UK’s biggest all-day multi-venue festival. Camden Rocks sees an impressive 250 acts throughout 25 venues, from the Pack & Carriage in Mornington Crescent to the Fiddler’s Elbow in west Kentish Town. Acts include multi-platinum Welsh rock legends Feeder, plus indie-rock quintet The Coral, punk act The Damned, Reverend and the Makers, Milburn, The Rifles and more. KOKO will host the afterparty.
Sat 3rd June. Tickets available here.
