Modern life’s annoyances #1 – broadband

Why can’t they just sort it out? Well, maybe now someone can…

Judging by the rants on my Facebook feed, broadband is a topic steadfastly at the top of the frustration scale.

Want to get online quickly and easily? Oh no. The deal is that you wait for days – even weeks – for internet to arrive, are forced to pay for a pointless landline on a long contract and then… nothing works. Which in turn requires further hours on the phone to a faraway support desk, ultimately ending in an over-sharing of your fury to the world via social media.

“It shouldn’t have to be like this,” you’ve no doubt wept over the keyboard. Excitingly for Camden locals there may now be a way out of this nightmare, as proudly disruptive central London broadband provider, Relish, launches its service here this week.

The deal? Order one of Relish’s hubs and it will arrive lightning fast. It couldn’t be easier: you can get online the same day – when ordered before 2pm for a one-off £20 fee. Alternatively, if you miss the deadline for delivery that day (or don’t fancy paying for the same day service) then it will arrive the next day for free. Not bad right?

In fact, the company find same day delivery SO easy, they’ve even done it on a pogo stick to celebrate their launch into Camden. It’s a bit of fun of course – so don’t expect a router to come bouncing to your door anytime soon (although that would be cool one day right?). You can watch the video here.

Camden’s first same day broadband delivery service then costs a flat £20 a month, and unlike other broadband providers that lock you in to 18 or even 24 month contracts, Relish’s rolling contracts start from just one month*.

Then – and we’re possibly getting a bit too excited about this – it plugs directly into the mains and is good to go. It just works, and you don’t need a landline. So with the money you save on cancelling that redundant old thing alone, you can cover the full cost of Relish, with some change spare.

We like the sound of Relish’s offering coming to Camden – it’s been available in central London for a while now, and we’ve looked on enviously (while waiting for the engineer to fix our box, again).

They appear to have solved all of the annoyances associated with installing and enjoying broadband. The Relish hub swerves the need for engineers, long wait times, fixed lines and small print, by tapping straight into its own wireless network. And now it’s here. So we say dump the landline, plug in the hub and let us know how you get on.

*One-month rolling contract requires an additional device fee of £50.
