Kentish Town Road early on Christmas morning, right? That was our first thought on seeing this eerily still painting by local artist Martin Brown. After all, it’s one of the few times when this particular junction is unlikely to be traffic-clogged.
Actually, Brown had other intentions when he was working on this picture. “I was thinking about painters like Hogarth, Constable, and Turner with their depictions of London,” he says. “And then I imposed contemporary additions such as road signs, markings, traffic lights and graffiti.”
This atmospheric image kickstarts our lightly seasonal issue, out today, which includes two pages of essential Must Do happenings, from December’s new arrivals to NYE options at your fave neighbourhood pubs.
Elsewhere we count down the unmissable eating and drinking options in 2016 – as well as remembering this year’s closures. And we unveil our Top 10 best new openings in the area.
