MUST DO: House Kitchen, Highgate Road

Soho House have finally launched a fourth site in NW5. And it's even more tucked-away than Dirty Burger

When Soho House Group set up shop on Highgate Road back in 2012, they chose Kentish Town to launch two totally new restaurant concepts, both a little “hidden”.

And we know what a success they’ve been with locals: subterranean Chicken Shop is still as rammed as ever, and Dirty Burger – tucked away in the car park behind the flagship Pizza East – is still one of the area’s superior patty-and-bun options.

Now they’ve taken over a fourth site, formerly Caffe Kix, the canteen-style outlet on the ground floor reception area of Highgate Studios. Just behind their existing local trio of hot culinary destinations, to access it you need to leave the main road, and head up through the car park into a characterful courtyard area, where you’ll see the entrance.

Re-branded House Kitchen – that sounds like a roll-out concept if ever there was one – the new cafe boasts the expected stylish interior, lots of comfy seating dotted about for work or leisure rendezvous, and a no-fuss counter-only menu.

So for Soho House grub that’s a bit more grab-and-go than the other on-site restaurants, you could do worse than head there for things like breakfast bacon muffins, porridge and poached eggs (with all manner of on-trend toppings from avocado to salmon to red quinoa).

There are also plenty of lunch-worthy seasonal salads, home-made soups and sourdough (or even gluten-free) sandwiches with tasty-sounding fillings like beef short rib and watercress, salmon and spinach or chicken and pancetta. Yum. Prices are south of a fiver, too.

Oh, and the team contacted us this week to say the new spot isn’t just for workers at Highgate Studios – it’s very much open to the public. “We’re definitely looking to make ourselves more well known around the neighbourhood,” says manager Liset.

So, if you’re lurking NW5-side on weekdays, pop by.

House Kitchen 53-79 Highgate Road NW5. Open 7am-5pm daily Mon-Friday. Check out their website here
