There’s an unmissable art show about to hit the neighbourhood – for one day only in Camden on Saturday, and then from next week in Kentish Town.
The skinny? Residents and users of Arlington House – the organisation providing accommodation and services to homeless people in London – were given the opportunity to work with, be influenced by, and in turn influence four practising artists: Sophie Charalambous, footwear designer Benjamin John Hall, animator Kevin Griffiths and Fiona Sant, who has contibuted to our publication over the years.
The programme is central to and provides a focus for their lives, says one regular participant. “Without it we’d all be completely lost. It gives us a reason to get up and out of our rooms. It’s something to focus on. Fiona understands us and sees out strengths and encourages us.”
The group’s artistic talents are to be showcased through an eclectic collection of work including paintings, sculpted ornaments, film and even custom-made footwear, inspired by “raw emotions, special memories, aspirational dreams and life-changing experiences.” Take a peek at the gallery here:
We particularly like the poem – with that haunting line “fish and chips thrown in the road” – which is also featured as our main pic. Make sure you check it out.
