Wow. This is one colourful display. If you’re passing through the capital’s newest postcode (that’s N1C) in the next couple of days, you’ll see tens of thousands of marigolds, geraniums, petunias and ageratum covering the steps down from Granary Square to the canal. That’s a whopping 200,000 petals in all.
The installation, called King’s Cross in Bloom, will be in place for only three days to coincide with Chelsea Fringe.
Why? Because, all day Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June, there’s a massive “plant takeaway”, where you can lot can pick up individual buds, as well as whole trays, for a donation of as little as 50p.
Proceeds will go towards supporting Global Generation, the charity that run the skip garden just off Granary Square, where there’ll also be organic food, live music and garland-making. And green-fingered Kentishtowners can get expert advice on how to plant up too.
Finally, did you know that a bee would have to visit these flowers 2000 times to make a single tablespoon of honey? Bloomin’ heck etc etc.
