Video: Peggy, 92 and Inez, 88, retired

Hidden Heroes is a series of six short films made by North London Cares. In the third - and most heartwarming yet - meet Peggy and Inez, two friends who share everything

When we started making the Hidden Heroes films, we knew we wanted to celebrate our older neighbours; the lives they lead, their passions, their interests and the contributions they make to the people and the places around them.

In particular, we wanted to find out about the relationships people keep, and the sustenance and encouragement people derive from community.

..
Two of the warmest people you could hope to meet. And they still like dancing
So it was an absolute pleasure to spend a few hours filming with Peggy and Inez, two of the warmest people you could hope to meet. As well as having a deep sense of what’s important in life, Peggy and Inez are cheeky as hell. Through my work with North London Cares I’ve known them for two years. They are constantly playful, easy to laughter, and honest as the day is long.

But the thing that always struck me most about Peggy and Inez was the strength of their affinity for each other. Although they are proud individuals, they are two peas in a pod. Best friends and companions. They’ve only known each other for two decades of the nine they’ve each lived. But it’s hard to imagine one without the other.

I hope some of their spirit and their love of fun and, of course, dancing comes out in their film.
