This one’s pretty big news if you’re a foodie type and keen on Indian cuisine. Local family support charity Home-Start Camden is throwing a Bangla Banquet in a fortnight’s time with the help of Bangladeshi philanthropist and celebrity chef – known by some as the “curry king” – Tommy Miah.
Tommy, owner of the award-winning Raj Restaurant in Edinburgh and founder of International Indian Chef of the Year Competition, will create “a unique mouth-watering menu from his repertoire” to diners entertained by Bollywood entertainer Jay Kumar and his dancers.
The event is being supported by lots of K-Town businesses such as The Grafton, Ristorante Rosella, Pizza East, Indoor Garden Design, Cakehouse, Phoenicia, Ace Sports and Farm Direct who, we hear, have donated a range of raffle and auction items.
In addition, local best-selling authors are lending their support by donating unique auction lots. Deborah Moggach of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel fame is offering “tea for two” at her Hampstead home, and Phillip Pullman has donated a signed book. Plus there are all sorts of other auction prizes include belly dancing and horse riding lessons, a cottage holiday on Mull and, erm, three hours ironing.
So what is Home-Start Camden? Supporting local families with young children who are going through a difficult time, the charity matches them with trained parent volunteers. It is also offers training to local parents or people with parenting experience to become weekly home-visiting volunteers. More info can be found here.
