Top 5: Hangouts for Lady Gaga in and around Kentish Town

Lady Gaga makes a rare London appearance opening the iTunes Festival at the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm on Sunday - but where to head if she has a bit of time off? We make some suggestions

5. Tanning Temple, Kentish Town Road

Tanning TempleIt’s a popular haunt for many a Kentishtowner seeking a bit of all year round colour; in fact, bronzed creatures (or to use the star’s terminology, little monsters) can be seen pouring out of this former grocery store at any time on a given day. So we say, go on, Gaga, put some colour in your chops. But then again, maybe not. For further evidence watch this video. Yikes!

4. Spring Studios, off Holmes Road

Gaga Spring shootLike her good self, K-Town’s been through quite a few changes since Gaga was last in the hood back in 2009 for shoot with Q magazine photographer John Wright at Spring Studios. But nowadays, rather than sip a cocktail in its members-only bar, she might want to head to the nearby Brewery for a craft beer under the arches, or the Grafton for a bunny lollipop. Cute.

3. Scratchline Tattoos, Kentish Town Road

Gaga tattoo Gaga has a whopping 14 tattoos – from a quirky unicorn on her leg to a huge bunch of roses covering her hip – but how about getting an Ich Bin Kentishtowner tat? A what, you holler? Why, that’s the name of our weekly Q&A (with its own t-shirt range) to boot. And where better to head for some Kentish ink than the tres hip Scratchline parlour just a monster’s lurch from the Roundhouse?

2. Harry’s Fine Foods, Kentish Town Road

harry's fine foodsIn 2010, Gaga wore that dress made of raw beef to the MTV Video Music Awards. Designed by Argentine designer Franc Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti, the stinky frock was condemned by animal rights groups, while being named by Time as that year’s top fashion statement. So, Gaga, why not put our very own local butcher Harry (left) on the map and cobble together another in time for Sunday’s show?

1. Camden Square

camden squareIn late 2011 Mother Monster made a secret detour to the late Amy Winehouse’s home, unnoticed even by her most devoted fans and arriving in disguise to keep things suitably low-key. But how about a return visit to leafy Camden Square, perfect for a brainy chanteuse to kick back and contemplate life’s transience? And, even better, it’s now dog-free – so that meat dress will come out in one piece too.
