We’re delighted to be shortlisted for Best Digital News Service at the 2013 Newspaper Awards, announced earlier today. Moreover, it’s alongside such heavyweights as sundaytimes.co.uk, guardian.co.uk and metro.co.uk in what the Guardian calls the “Oscars of Journalism.” Yikes.
This follows a fast-paced 12 months for The Kentishtowner and its parent company London Belongs To Me Ltd which began back in July with funding from innovations charity NESTA for their “Destinations Local” programme. In October we relaunched the site using the latest location-aware multi-platform technology, and in February published our first monthly print newspaper (the second issue is just out). In addition, several of our recent stories have gone global, most spectacularly our 3000 word paean to lost London nightclubs that has enjoyed hundreds of thousands of views and 9.9K likes on Facebook.
Anyway, we look forward to the results at some swanky hotel on April 24. Meanwhile, here’s the shortlist for the 2013 Digital News Service of the Year/ The Press Ahead Award for all newspapers:
guardian.co.uk
huffingtonpost.co.uk
kentishtowner.co.uk
metro.co.uk
theexeterdaily.co.uk
thesundaytimes.co.uk
Wish us luck. And look out for another exciting announcement tomorrow!

Good luck!!!
Yes, good luck! (Just saw this.) That’s quite some heavyweights you’re up against. And one other thought: But is it (KT’er) news?
