We forgot to mention this earlier but down on the curve of road where Camden Town bleeds into King’s Cross is a fantastic new pop-up gallery space. And tomorrow, coinciding with the opening of Art13, the capital’s swanky new contemporary art fair, the PayneShurvell gallery is staging an off-site project right there.
Titled The Leisure Circle, the exhibition features artist Andrew Curtis, who presents two bodies of work that “address the nature of taste and judgment, exploring images that once informed the habits and methods that middle-class Britons used to shape the external and internal environment that they inhabited.”
Exploring Curtis’ fascination with the suburban landscape, the exhibition includes large-format prints of a colonialist’s winter garden in South London, built in the 1880’s, along with Curtis’s signature technique of masking prints using painstakingly applied Rotring ink to challenge the idea of context.
