Community Pinboard: A new Grafton Arms and the Alma Street Fair 2012

Last week’s inaugural Community Pinboard was a H.I.T. We had thousands of views so keep posting your suggestions on our Facebook or comments section below, and the most interesting make the round-up. This week:

1. A new Grafton Arms.

Lots of you have already spied the eviction notice on the doors of this Prince Of Wales Road boozer, so it’s over to new owner Susie for the low-down:

LOCAL ADVERTISING

‘We want to open properly in July as The Grafton. Put simply, we’re going for a ‘proper pub’ vibe. Our aim is to keep everything simple, but done really well, from an impeccable cellar and beer lines for the perfect pint to the friendly welcome we’ll extend to everyone that comes through the door.

‘We’ve brought on board a fantastic chef from a renowned restaurant in the centre of town. Our menu will range from small plates (scotch eggs etc) through to sharers (whole chicken to carve at the table for four) and we expect there to be something to suit any pocket.

‘Our bar range will include a number of real ales and, without a doubt, Hells [from Camden Brewery]. We want to make the most of the first floor function room by hosting community events, from comedy and music shows, to records, books and vintage fairs. But most of all we want to encourage a sense of community in the place.’

Sounding good Susie. We’ll keep you posted. Oh, and follow them on @thegraftonnw5

2. Alma Street Fair and Art Street

We loved last year’s bash and will, of course, be there with bells on (although without a stall, as we didn’t get our act together in time). We’ll be armed with our limited edition postcards though, so make sure you grab one.

Expect the usual handmade/vintage-y bits ‘n’ bobs, live music, food from Kentishtowner faves Lahore Masala House, Lion & Unicorn, Pane Vino and Arancini Brothers, beers from Camden Brewery and a cocktail stall from Flaxon Ptootch (thanks to Mr Kentish Town himself, Michael, for allowing us to taste them last weekend at their ace ‘pop-down’ dinner event, complete with operatic waiters).

Even better, Free Space Gallery hits the road for a one day pop-up affair. Says organizer Melissa Hardwick: ‘We’ll be shifting our operations to Inkerman Road in Kentish Town NW5 showcasing 22 artists in our outdoor gallery made entirely from shipping pallets. The Art Shed will be making its first appearance as part of the event. This little wooden abode will be showing a series of new short films by a wide range of artists curated by Viewer Gallery. There will also be the Arts Marquee offering a range of workshops and general arts busyness over the whole day.’

See you there for a pint of Hell’s. And don’t forget to email us your Alma Street Fair pics info@kentishtowner.co.uk
