Pink lamb and borlotti beans, perfect parmesan-crusted fried chicken with rocket and aioli, a bright, contemporary interior and tables stacked high with Ottolenghi-style brownies, desserts and ‘larder’ salads: the newly-opened Canteen epitomises all that’s current about modern London all-day dining.
And if you stare out the window long enough, you can just about make out Hampstead Heath across the railway lines.
It’s all at pleasantly bargainous prices too (£8-12 for a main), but if you’re on a real budget go grab a main course, salad and glass of house for £12 before 7pm.
But don’t all rush at once – because we like to eat there most nights.
