Your last chance to see Highgate Cemetery at dusk is tonight

The summer season of 'late' closing at the capital's most famous burial ground ends ce soir

Don’t let the incessant drizzle and grim grey skies put you off. Why? Because today’s your absolute last chance to see the ancient graveyard twinkle in the soft summer evening light.

The East Cemetery – you know, the one with the huge Karl Marx memorial – is open for one more ‘Wednesday Late’ until 9pm tonight; and then that’s it for another year.

The special evening guided tours of the arguably more atmospheric West Cemetery, which last 70 minutes, and are led by extremely knowledgeable locals, also finish tonight.

Both sides of the cemetery are, of course, still open daily, but close at the less romantic time of 5pm. So grab your brolly, some waterproof trousers and climb that hill after work.
