Neighbour opens on site of Joe’s Southern Kitchen

Well, it could have been another Starbucks. Here's what to expect from Kentish Town's big summer opening

The site briefly occupied by Joe’s Southern Kitchen (and before it the lovely Kentish Canteen) today launches as Neighbour, a new bar and restaurant offering “stunning seasonal food, great wines and carefully crafted drinks”.

Nodding to what the owners rightly call the “vibrant social community on its doorstep”, Neighbour will do that all-day-long breakfast-to-dinner thing.

And the owners are Urban Pubs And Bars, the 12-site Londonwide group behind Paradise By Way Of Kensal Green, Well Street Pizza in Hackney, and the Gatehouse in Highgate (whose revamped look we reviewed here last year.)

The brasserie-style menu is to focus on seasonality: expect small plates like fried chicken with paprika aoli and kale, or fritto misto with salsa verde, plus larger dishes such as sea trout with pea salsa, charred baby gem and Anya potatoes. A full brunch menu is to be available daily from 11am, and 10am on weekends.

Behind the bar there’ll be organic and biodynamic wines by the glass, a range of premium spirits, and locally brewed craft beers.

And let’s not forget downstairs. Where once stood the mighty Shebeen (and a century before that police cells), will now be Jukes, all dark woods and red neons, serving up “classic cocktails with speakeasy vibes” in private booths set into the arches.

Neighbour is at 300 Kentish Town Road NW5. Follow at @NeighbourNW5
