MUSIC: Blondie pop-up shop
It’s all happening this weekend down the market. Kicking things off is this five-day celebration of the iconic band’s new album Pollinator (out 5th May), just before their sell-out show at the Roundhouse next week. The store will sell exclusive Blondie merch, tees and bags and limited edition vinyl including a 7″ track called Tonight co-written by Charli XCX. There’s also an exclusive photography exhibition by Blondie guitarist and co-founder Chris Stein. It’s sure to be rammed. Friday 29th April – Wednesday 3rd May. Provender Building, Camden Market, Chalk Farm Road NW1
ART: Unite & Take Over
While you’re at the Provender it’s worth also catching this exhibition up on the top floor. Shot over the last three decades, it celebrates London’s subcultures and countercultures, from the ravers of the 1980s to grime MCs in east London. The warehouse interior has been styled like a youth club for grown-ups, selling old-school snacks and merch whilst encouraging visitors to hang out on bean bags surrounded by vintage arcade games, or play table tennis. Until 10th May. 2nd Floor, Provender Building, Camden Market NW1
FOOD: Zala
Now, something classy to eat. Zala is a spanking new Middle Eastern restaurant, specialising in authentic meze, Levantine pizzas, pitas and grilled meats. One of Israel’s most renowned and innovative cooks, chef-patron Tomer Niv’s CV includes The Fat Duck and The Ledbury. Zala occupies a converted unit next to Kerb Camden, with stylish indoor seating and an alfresco takeaway counter. More info. The West Yard, Camden Market NW1
DRINK: Proud roof garden
The latest idea for the mega-club’s outdoor space is a “lush oasis of calm, high above the hustle and bustle of Camden Market”. Makes sense, right? With that in mind, the sprawling roof has had a makeover with full decking, a landscaped rockery, a load of tropical plants and the odd water feature or two. There are worse ways to while away an afternoon with a beer. More info. Proud Bar, Camden Market, Chalk Farm Road NW1
