Brecknock Bakery is coming
Enthusiastic local Andrew Strang has raised enough money to start a sourdough bakery after a successful stint renting part of the kitchen in Finsbury Park’s Blighty Coffee. Over the last year, his enterprising Bread By Bike has won a couple of World Bread Awards, so its growth meant it was time to take the next step and move into new premises. Asking customers to donate money on Kickstarter, he smashed his target in a matter of days, so the bakery will now open on Kentish Town’s easternmost parade in April (date TBC). Gospel Oak’s new cake queen
Translated as ‘the crumb’, home-based bakery La Miette specialises in loaf cakes, tray bakes and macarons. Founder Mary Johnson began baking in Indiana, before moving here – and she’s now supplying the teeny Little Oak Coffee opposite Gospel Oak station. We can vouch for the fact that her treats are pretty tasty, too, especially the salted caramel millionaire’s shortbread and the honey and walnut cake. La Miette available daily at Little Oak, 1 Mansfield Rd NW3
Sarnies – by Patron
Know what a tartine is? Basically a posh open sandwich. From this month (Tuesdays to Sundays) Fortess Road’s Patron is putting it on the menu for a workable lunch. The tartines will be garnished with favourite Patron delicacies – presumably of the meat and cheese variety – and served with a side of salad and homemade vinaigrette. You can either eat at the sharing table or, if you work nearby, pre-order and swing by at feed o’clock. More info. 16 Fortess Rd NW5
