THEATRE: Don’t forget to Score
We caught the recent run of this ‘jukebox musical’ on the Southbank and simply loved playwright Lucy Bell’s oddly upbeat story about two mums facing the problems of heroin addiction (and other issues). The time spent researching the project chatting to real-life families is reflected in dialogue that’s effortless and convincing, as well as a believable tussle of a plot which ebbs and flows without preachiness. The songs are mostly disposable pop classics sung heartfelt and acapella, and this captivating two-hander is made more impressive by the fact that the female leads are on stage for the entire 75 minute duration. ART: Jon Rafman lands in K-Town
For Jon Rafman’s first major UK show, the capacious Zabludowicz gallery has been transformed with video installations and sculptures featuring a wealth of interactive elements. Visitors will also have the chance to be transported to a virtual landscape using technology developed especially for this exhibition. And a debut film, Sticky Drama, inspired by the “vivid and violent world of children’s games”, is also being shown. Until 20 December 2015, opens Thurs-Sun 12midday-6pm. FOOD: Try a Parkway Pairing
What with Clapton Craft, Caps & Taps, and Bottle Apostle, the craft off-license trend appears to show no sign of abating. And it’s the latter’s new Primrose Hill outlet that’s hooking up with classic British restaurant Market on Parkway next week for a one-off autumnal food-and-wine pairing evening. Expect Jerusalem artichoke soup with girolles, cod with coco beans and fennel, and pheasant ragu with pancetta and chestnuts, amongst the dishes – with lashings of vino to match. £45, 11th November. ART, MUSIC, FOOD & BOOZE: a fabulous party at Flaxon Ptootch
Now Is Not The Time To Get Experimental is the deadpan name of the new show by artist Iyrie at Kentish Town Road’s legendary salon-cum-gallery-cum-venue – and it kicks off tonight. Expect limited edition letterpress works, screenprints, collages and found objects all for sale at “reasonable prices”, plus the live launch of the new Unusual & Electric EP.
Elsewhere, embattled local heroes the Knowhere Special guys are on cocktail duties (make sure you join their petition here), with top quality nibbles provided by the equally talented chef-owner Mustapha from Anima E Cuore.
