ART: 20 years of the Zabludowicz
Sure, it’s only been located in west Kentish Town for eight years, but the area’s most challenging contemporary art collection is celebrating two decades of existence. This major new exhibition from the gallery, founded back in ’94, features significant works by over thirty leading international artists, from Tracey Emin to Wolfgang Tillmans, Martin Creed (pictured) to Damien Hirst. Dramatic interventions will transform the former Methodist chapel’s architecture, such as Jim Lambie’s brightly-coloured floor work Zobop (Fluorescent), 2006. An events programme includes a symposium with University College London Art Museum. Launch party tonight, 6-9pm, with drinks from Bloomsbury Distillery. Free. DRINK: Clapton Craft
Hot on the heels of new arrival Caps & Taps is this popular Hackney craft beer and growler refill shop. It will sell a wide range of local, UK and imported beer in bottles, as well as in growlers and PETs which they fill from eight rotating taps. They even use a state of the art counter-pressure system for all their fills ensuring the beer stays fresh for up to six weeks without loss of carbonation or flavour. Wow. This second branch will be on Kentish Town Road just opposite the Bull & Gate. Opening date TBC
EAT: Spence Bakery
Another north-east London import is Spence, whose other outlet is over on Stoke Newington’s Church Street. Finally opening next Tuesday on Fortess Road, expect a myriad of baked delights from freshly baked seeded bloomers to hearty sourdoughs, plus a seductive array of croissants and pastries. Presumably decent coffee, too. At lunchtime try a steaming hot bowl of homemade soup served with oven-fresh crispy roll. Plus there’ll be counter space to eat in. Opens May 5, 146a Fortess Road NW5
