It’s the second branch of the Hackney offie – and, as many readers will have spotted, it opens today. And, if you’re resolutely “Upper Kentish” and find the stroll downtown to Caps ‘n’ Taps (or the legendary Drinkers’ Paradise) too much of a bore, well, this one’s for you.
But what’s the actual concept? Well, original gaff Clapton Craft – based in, er, you guessed it – was the first specialist to “counter pressure growler fills in the UK”.
You wot? Calm down, it’s actually quite simple: the method allows customers to bottle keg beer directly from the tap to maximise freshness, flavour and carbonation for up to six weeks. So: a good thing.
This new shop will of course utilise the same technology to offer what they reckon is “the largest selection of takeout draught beer available anywhere in London”. So there’ll be twelve taps for beer and cider, two for wine and two for microdistilled gin and rye whiskey. Plus over 500 bottled and canned beers, and 100+ lines of wines and spirits.
Both owners Tom McKin and Will Jack naturally have backgrounds in beer and wine, with previous stints at ace plonk botherers Borough Wines amongst others. And they plan on doing tons of community-based evenings too:
“We hope to put on an array of events,” says Tom, “including regular tap takeovers, meet-the-brewer and launches, as well as seasonal beer dinners organised in partnership with local restaurants.” We’ll keep you posted.
