4 essential things to do in mid-August

It's exactly midway through the laziest month of the year. So here are a handful of cultural tips to see you through to the bank holiday weekend

THEATRE: the last 10 days of the Camden Fringe

Paolo Ferrari: catch his Urban Buffoon show daily until Aug 24

The ninth annual arts festival is now in full swing, having kicked off two weeks ago with 200 productions in a whopping number of venues across the borough of Camden and beyond. If you haven’t caught anything yet, we recommend all-female collective Get Over It Productions’ Twelfth Night (Etcetera Theatre, 265 Camden High Street, 15th – 17th August) or, a week later, the Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired Demetrius Unchained (21st – 24th August).

Elsewhere, hip street performer Paolo Ferrari (pictured above) is taking to Camden High Street for his nightly stand-up show Urban Buffoon (meet on the corner of Parkway and Camden High Street, 830pm, daily until 24th August); while laugh-out-loud comedians the Bearded Women take over the Hen & Chickens in Highbury on the 17th, 22 and 23rd August.

All a bit too hirsute? Catch Ladylogue! (Tristan Bates Theatre, 1a Tower Street WC2, 12-16 August),  hilarious, heart-warming, one-woman plays by some of the UK’s finest emerging playwrights. For the full line-up and to book tickets (£5+), head here
