In Pictures: the view from 5 Pancras Square

We took the lift up Camden Council's towering new HQ to peek at the impressive panorama over the changing King's Cross landscape

Yesterday we climbed up to the ninth floor of spanking new 5 Pancras Square, what Camden Council are calling their new “community building”, and wow, what an impressive, if industrial, view it yielded over the borough.

Even on a drizzly summer morning, cranes frozen against the grey sky, who couldn’t fail to appreciate the curving canal, scrubbed warehouses, vastness of Granary Square and Camley Street’s leafy park? Peer closely and you might even see ant-like bodies rushing to and fro in the rain.

Our tour was in advance of the new centre opening on Saturday July 19 to the public. Most exciting are the two ultra-modern swimming pools, which will cost the same as those in Kentish Town or Swiss Cottage; but there’s also a fully accessible fitness gym, quite stylish café, relocated library and customer access centre.

We’ll bring you more exclusive photos and full details of ‘Sports Day’, the venue’s launch event, next week.
