Earlier this year we raved about the quite secret Red Hand Gallery, a surprisingly large and bohemian space above the Tufnell Park Tavern.
And now it’s reopened after “a major refurbishment” – just in time for the launch of artist-in-residence Samual Miller’s new exhibition.
Millar graduated from Bristol (where he has exhibited at the Arnolfini and Spike Island) in 2011 and within two months had already shown at the Royal West of England Academy. The boy wonder was even dubbed “Handpicked Artist of the Future” by the BBC.
Giants on the Causeway, his sixth solo show, is a selection of his “largest, most imposing work to date”, and showcases new pieces as well as their predecessors. Think harmonies in colour and composition, falling light and “deep pitches of darkness”. Most effective is his “Man in Room” series (see main pic).
“The exhibition will consist of large figurative paintings alongside a handpicked selection from my ongoing seascape series,” he says.
The gallery is also home to Miller’s art studio and hanging garden, inspired by none other than Louis Majorelle and his garden in Marrakesh.
Whodafunk it down on the Tufnell Park Road, eh?
