Pinboard: Kentish Town carnival weekend

Kentish Town Carnival, cycling, yodelling & free coffee. Dive in to our regular weekend guide

1. Kentish Town Carnival – on Sunday!

Carnival flyerKeep doing that rain dance, because it’s carnival time in the ‘hood this weekend, so we need the sun to be firmly in position and on display.

Many Culture One Community’s inaugural Kentish Town Carnival brings music and costume to streets on Sunday morning.

Join the procession, which meets up outside Queen’s Crescent library for an 11am departure, or get involved later on, at the all day party at Talacre (it runs midday to 7.30pm). Look out for themed floats from local faves including The Pineapple pub.

The emphasis is very much on participation, so remember to bring your 5 fave tracks for BBC DJ Max Reinhardt to spin, or turn up with an instrument and play in the Kentish Town Instant Orchestra.

If not music, then dance. Hit the mats from 2.30pm to throw some moves with the London Swing Society Dance workshops. Or just hang out and enjoy the community carnival vibes on the grass at Talacre. Which is our plan.

There will be food stalls proffering all sorts of culinary indulgences close at hand, so well worth making this the focus of your local weekend.

You could even do a street party double header, as it’s the long-running annual Fair in the Square up in Highgate on Saturday afternoon too. Cupcakes and bunting aplenty, which ever way you may turn.
