Midweek Dinner: Lord Stanley, Camden

Priced out of NW5 – oh, the irony! – our petite new wood-floored office is just over the fast-flowing river of Camden Road into N7, and a butt’s flick from this classic boozer. Contributor Mark Williams recently raved about their Sunday lunches, but we’re enjoying the food here so much we thought we’d give you a heads up on their weekday fare too. And no, they still won’t give us a freebie (damn them!)

Of all the delights we’ve tasted recently – polenta with mushrooms, purple sprouting with poached egg, sardines with anchovy butter (left), a superb Sicilian cauliflower pasta with raisins, saffron, pine nuts – we’d highlight this one (main pic) as the daddy: perfect fillets of bream with spiced turnip and pearl barley.

Even better, if you order before 730pm you can bag two courses for £12.50. Oh, and there’s a theatre upstairs, grown-up crowd to boot and, best of all, a small selection of lunch plates at just £6.
